Somebody once accused me of living in a fantasy world. Ha, I wish.
“I’m not a pessimist”, he said, “I’m a realist”. And then he added that perhaps I should join him in the real world.
Just because I’m staying positive doesn’t mean I’m in denial. I just want to find some altitude. Thinking positively is my only defense against the daily media slam of negativity.
We need to find a Better Way.
First off…look around.
Our current approach might not be working.
But bad news sells!
I know! I don’t buy it.
See, in addition to the murders and the car accidents and the bad politics, we are inundated everyday with messages like “Statistics show that heart disease is the number one killer…” and “About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime“. And I just added to it. Ugh.
What kind of future are we creating for ourselves when we constantly remind each other that we are a dying, failing society, causing harm to our environment and each other?
We’ve got to be able to deflect those negative vibes. We need to look hard every day for proof that people are generally good, and safe, that there is hope. We can overcome!
If a vision board works to conjure the things we want in life, I propose their use for anyone, even non-believers, to ward off negativity! Maybe that crazy photo on your desktop will wash away some of the anxieties picked up over your day, or some homemade graffiti posted over your bathroom mirror will equip you for the day’s events.
Successful people look past “reality” into a place where they can see other possibilities.
Will Smith, who happens to be rather successful, once pronounced:
Think positive. Choose to look toward a better future.
